Marienkapelle (Kransberg)
The Marienkapelle is a Roman Catholic chapel on the summit region of the Holzberg (approx. 280 m above sea level ), a mountain in the Taunus south of the USA . It is 1.5 km north-northeast of Kransberg , a district of Usingen in the Hessian Hochtaunus district .
A chapel at this point is first mentioned in a document in 1218. The area is surrounded by ramparts . It is believed that the original building was erected in this prehistoric rampart at the beginning of the Christianization of the Wetterau.
In an artful frame, a reredos, the chapel houses a painting (17th / 18th century?) Of Mary with child and the head of a child, interpreted as John the Baptist (son of Elizabeth ). The picture bears the inscription "O Mary without original sin, please receive for us".
In the 19th century the chapel was in poor condition. In 1855 a renovation took place, which cost 136 guilders and 11 cruisers. The chapel has been owned by the parishes of Kransberg and Wernborn since 1902.
The chapel was renovated in 1979 by the Usingen architect Josef Zalud and restored to its present state. The entrance was moved to the east and the miraculous image was integrated into the tower area. A wrought iron grille under the pointed arch between the tower and the nave now closes the new chancel. Benches for 200 visitors were set up in front of the building.
The chapel is used as a place of pilgrimage . It is open day and night. The day of pilgrimage is August 15th, the feast of the Assumption .
