The Protestant St. Mary's Church in Kocherstetten , a district of Künzelsau in Hohenlohekreis ( Baden-Württemberg ), was built around 1300.

history

The original church was changed in the middle of the 14th century and in 1394 it was separated from the mother church in Steinkirchen . The Comburg monastery retained the right of patronage even after the Reformation , which was introduced by Eberhard von Stetten in 1556 .

In 1505 a sacristy was added and around 1620 the church received new church furnishings . The gallery was built in 1742 , as evidenced by the initials IMS 1742 on the wooden pillar of the gallery.

Furnishing

The pulpit was made of sandstone around 1620 . The four evangelists are depicted on the pulpit .

The baptismal font from 1620 consists of a twisted chalice shape with a mighty foot.

The organ was originally created in 1839/41 for the community in Schönau by the Overmann family. In 1896 she came to Kocherstetten via the Walcker company .

Epitaphs

Numerous epitaphs were erected in the church or on the outer facade for members or relatives of the von Stetten family . Most of them are decorated with the coat of arms of the von Stetten family, consisting of two or three battle axes . One of them is the epitaph for Eberhard von Stetten and Margaretha von Layen .

Murals

The wall paintings in the choir from the 14th century are remarkable . In the middle they show Christ in the mandorla with raised arms and a cross nimbus . On the north side stands Mary with the child and opposite John the Baptist . The twelve smaller painted figures represent the apostles .
