Marienkirche in Struden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The former Marienkirche in Struden , also Schifferkirche, in the former Markt Struden in Strudengau was a branch church of Sankt Nikola an der Donau .

The small Gothic church is said to have been built in 1502 (probably on the site of a previous church), blocked and executed in 1787 . The building, converted for residential purposes, has been privately owned since the final auction in 1792.

The church building, the church furnishings and the cemetery

The interior of the church was 19 meters long and 6.65 meters wide. The small sacristy was 3.8 meters long and 2.85 meters wide. The floor was paved with bricks.

The church had an organ positive with four hand registers without a pedal. In the church there were two side altars and a pulpit next to the high altar .

The wooden bell tower contained three bells 14, 11 and 9 inches in diameter and an iron hour clock. The walled church cemetery , which adjoined the church on the east side, was 28.5 meters long and 12.35 meters wide.

Numerous furnishings in the church, insofar as they were still usable, had already been moved to other churches at the time of the auction (including the high altar and the statue of the Virgin Mary to St. Nikola an der Donau, the bells to Bad Kreuzen and the organ to Klam ).

There is a small market square in front of the former church building , where there is still a small market fountain . The pillory that was originally also present is located at the nearby Werfenstein Castle .

Foundation, endowment

According to the parish chronicle, the Archduke of Austria and later Emperor Maximilian donated a holy mass in 1502 in the chapel allegedly built by him, which had to be paid from the local toll revenue.

Reuse

The building, which is divided into two residential buildings, is inhabited. In the course of renovation and reconstruction measures, parts of the property that are worth protecting were placed under monument protection in 2011.
