The Capelli Sport Stadium is a football stadium in the US city ​​of Rochester in the state of New York . The Rochester Rhinos ( USL ) are currently based at the venue. It is also used for lacrosse .

history

Construction began on July 9, 2004. The stadium was inaugurated on June 3, 2006 with a game between the Rochester Rhinos and the Virginia Beach Mariners . The game ended 2-2 and was completely sold out.

The stadium was built for the Rochester Rhinos , who are currently competing in the United Soccer League . Until 2014, the Laacrosseteam of the Rochester Rattlers from the MLL played their games there. Since 2013, the Western New York Flash from the NWSL have been playing their home games here.

In February 2011, Sahlen Packing Co., Inc. , an industrial food processing company , gave the stadium its name. The contract had a term of five years with an option for another five years. In October 2015, the name sponsor announced that the option would not be used. Until a new long-term contract partner is found, the stadium will be called Rochester Rhinos Stadium , as it did from 2006 to 2009 .
