Marinus (Marius) Heijl (born March 22, 1835 in Utrecht , † January 29, 1931 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch landscape painter.

Heijl was supposed to become a priest, but ultimately decided to paint. He studied at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam with Hendrik Dirk Kruseman van Elten . In 1871 he became a member of " Arti et Amicitiae ", where he later held a board position for years. He owned a studio in Amsterdam in which he trained young painters such as Geo Poggenbeek and Nicolaas Bastert . He worked regularly with Anton Mauve . He often painted in the Veluwe forest . After 1880 he went on study trips to Germany ( Harz , Teutoburg Forest ) and Switzerland . His style was heavily influenced by painters from the Hague School . Sometimes he also painted still lifes. Marinus Heijl was appointed professor at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.

Heijl died in 1931 at the age of 94. On his 90th birthday, the Polygoon Journal dedicated an article to him in which he was portrayed in a friendly, smiling and pipe-smoking manner.

His works include a. on display at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam , the Museum of Modern Art in Arnhem and the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem .
