Mario Carević (born March 29, 1982 in Makarska , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player .

Career

At the age of 18, Carević caused a sensation at the Alpine Cup , a competition in which Austrian , Hungarian , Slovenian and Croatian clubs take part, and was named best player at the 2000 tournament. Carević is considered to be technically adept, physically robust and strong in duels. In 2004, during the U-21 European Championship in Germany , he played in two games. In 2003 he made his debut in the Croatian national soccer team .

He played from 2001 to 2004 for the Croatian club Hajduk Split and in the 2004/05 season for the Saudi club Al-Ittihad . In the 2005/06 season, VfB Stuttgart secured the services of the Croat, who signed a contract until 2008.

Carević was loaned to Hajduk Split for one year in the 2006/07 season. For the 2007/08 season he moved to the Belgian first division club KSC Lokeren on a free transfer . He is 1.86 m tall. There he played in the Pro League for three years . In summer 2010 he joined the league competitor KV Kortrijk . For the 2011/12 season he was loaned to Maccabi Petach Tikwa in Israel. There he had to relegate with his team at the end of the 2011/12 season . In the summer of 2013, his contract in Kortrijk was not renewed. He was without a club for half a year before he joined NK Krka in his Croatian homeland. He ended his career there at the end of 2014.
