Marion Ramsey

Marion Ramsey (born May 10, 1947 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † January 7, 2021 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress and singer .

life and career

Ramsey started her career as a musical performer in the 1960s. In 1971 she starred opposite Barry Bostwick in the rock opera Soon at the Ritz Theater on Broadway, and in 1973 she appeared in Harold Rome's musical adaptation of Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind in Los Angeles. In 1974 she appeared alongside Bette Davis in the flopped musical Miss Moffat , which was discontinued after only 15 performances. On New York's Broadway she appeared in the musicals Grind , Eubie! and Hello, Dolly with.

Between 1976 and 2018 she stood in front of the camera for various film and television productions. She has appeared in films such as Family Secrets , Recipe for Disaster , Return to Babylon and Lavalantula - Attack of the Fire Spiders , and she has guest roles in popular series such as MacGyver and Die Nanny . She became known to a wider audience as the policewoman Laverne Hooks in the first six Police Academy films. Ramsey died in Los Angeles in January 2021 at the age of 73.
