Marius Schwemmer (born March 22, 1977 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz ) is a German church musician and deacon .

Live and act

Marius Schwemmer gained his first church music experience as a member of the Regensburger Domspatzen . In Würzburg he studied Catholic theology , musicology, music education and church music as well as organ concert exams. He deepened the focus on choral conducting with Manfred Schreier at the Trossingen University of Music . The connection between artistic practice, church music spirituality and theoretical reflection with vocal music is reflected in Schwemmer's publications, his editing activities and his teaching assignments at the universities of Passau and Würzburg. It is also the focus of his work as a church musician.

From 2004 to 2009 he worked as choir director and organist at the St. Lorenz Basilica in Kempten . From 2005 to 2015 Schwemmer was editor of the specialist journal Musica sacra . In 2006 he was elected the second vice president of the General Cecilia Association for Germany . In 2009 he was appointed diocesan music director of the Diocese of Passau . Since the winter semester 2009/2010 he has been leading the Passau Student Choir at the University of Passau . In 2010 he founded the Diocesan Chamber Choir Passau. Marius Schwemmer is a church musician for the Catholic student community at St. Nikola Passau. On January 1, 2016, he was entrusted as cathedral music director with the management of the episcopal cathedral music in the general delegation of cathedral dean Hans Bauernfeind.

In November 2017 Schwemmer was elected President of the General Cecilia Association for Germany . He officially took office in September 2018. He is married to the singer Elisabeth Jehle.
