Mark Helfrich (politician)

Mark André Helfrich (born September 8, 1978 in Itzehoe ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and businessman.

On September 22, 2013, Mark Helfrich entered the German Bundestag through the direct mandate of the Schleswig-Holstein Bundestag constituency Steinburg - Dithmarschen Süd .

Life and work

Helfrich grew up in Münsterdorf and from 1989 attended the Auguste Viktoria School in Itzehoe, where he graduated from high school ten years later in 1999 . From 1995 to 1996 he lived in the United States and attended the prestigious High School Stanton College Preparatory School in Jacksonville, Florida . After graduating from high school, Mark Helfrich did his basic military service in Breitenburg in 1999/2000. He then began to study business administration at the private University of Applied Sciences in Göttingen and graduated in 2004 with a degree in business administration.

In 2005 Helfrich worked in corporate auditing at Barilla Holding SpA in Düsseldorf . From November 2005 he worked in commercial functions in the energy industry. In July 2010, Mark Helfrich moved to Hamburg Netz GmbH as an assistant to the management and worked there until he was elected member of the Bundestag in September 2013. Mark Helfrich is married and lives with his wife and their child in Dägeling .

Political career

In 1995 Mark Helfrich joined the Junge Union . Since 1997 he has held various offices in the JU. Among other things, he was district chairman of the Junge Union Steinburg from 2000 to 2002. Since May 2002 he has been a member of the district board of the CDU Steinburg, from 2010 to 2014 as treasurer, since 2014 as deputy district chairman.

From 2003 to 2005 and from 2008 to 2013 Mark Helfrich was a member of the district council in the Steinburg district , including chairman of the economic committee and deputy member of the main committee. From 2008 to 2012 he was also a civil member of the finance committee of the city of Itzehoe.

On September 22, 2013, Mark Helfrich won the direct mandate in the Bundestag constituency Steinburg - Dithmarschen Süd in the 2013 federal election with 45.4 percent of the first votes . Mark Helfrich has been a member of the German Bundestag since October 22, 2013.

In the 18th legislative period he was a full member of the Committee for Labor and Social Affairs and the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Sustainable Development . He is also the secretary of the plenary sessions of the German Bundestag.

In the election to the 19th German Bundestag, Mark Helfrich defended his direct mandate and again won the Bundestag constituency Steinburg - Dithmarschen Süd with 41.9 percent of the first votes . During this legislative period he is a full member of the Committee on Economic and Energy and the Committee on European Union Affairs.

Political positions

In the German Bundestag he approved the extension of the second Greece aid program on February 27, 2015, "because it does not involve any new financial commitments and [...] no significant reduction in the Hellenic Republic's reform obligations". He subsequently rejected the third aid program for Greece and voted against it on August 19, 2015.

In the 19th German Bundestag , Helfrich is a full member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy , as well as the Committee for European Union Affairs . He is a deputy member of the Finance Committee .
