The Auguste Viktoria Schule (AVS) in Itzehoe is a municipal high school .

With around 1000 students, who are taught by around 70 teachers, the AVS is one of the largest grammar schools in the Steinburg district . It was named after the last German Empress Auguste Viktoria .

Buildings and equipment

In addition to 26 class and course rooms, there are 18 specialist and administrative rooms. The auditorium has a stage and offers space for around 200 people.

There are also two computer and two media rooms, a three-part sports hall , a (small) gymnasium (until summer 2011) and a weight room, a library for the upper level and a shared library for the lower and middle levels as well as a room for the student council (SV ) to disposal.

In addition, the AVS has 10 canoes and a studio with computer interfaces for video productions . On the first floor there is a school gallery with a changing range of exhibitions.

Approx. 300 bicycles and approx. 30 motorized two-wheelers can be parked in appropriately marked areas on the school premises.

After parts of the roof had been renewed in 2010, the entire demolition of the specialist rooms, including the studio with computer editing stations and the (small) gymnasium, began in 2011. In 2014 the new building with the new specialist rooms and the new canteen was completed.

A special feature of the AVS is the profile formation already in the lower level. In addition to a language profile, there is a sports and music profile, but also an iPad class. In the linguistic profile, students learn at least three foreign languages, or four if interested. In addition, some subjects (geography, history, biology) are taught in English. Only 5th graders who have bought an iPad Pro from their parents are allowed in the iPad class .

history

In 1904 the Auguste Viktoria Schule was founded as a public school for girls under the direction of the Low German poet and educator Johann Hinrich Fehrs . From 1928 it was possible to acquire the general university entrance qualification at the AVS .
In 1971 , a new phase began with co-education , which was followed by the offer of
bilingual lessons in the 1990s .

theatre

School theater

Since 1979, theater has been continuously performed at the Auguste Viktoria School under the direction of Dagmar Kröger-Naudiet . It all started with two one-act plays that had been rehearsed to celebrate the 75th school anniversary. From this a school theater working group developed, which was later converted into a regular upper level course for performing arts. At regular intervals, sometimes even annually, the student ensembles presented their productions to the public , of course with a changing cast . It was initially played in the school auditorium and later, due to the growing number of audiences, mainly in the then, now demolished, municipal theater on Reichenstrasse. For atmospheric reasons, the so-called " Schalthaus " on the former Alsen site was used twice as a venue. Since 2017/18 Niklas Kremer has been running a theater group as part of the OGTS (open all-day school). His self-written play which he staged with the school theater group was called: "The Manganese Treasure".

Adult Theater (AUGUSTORIA)

In 1992 the city of Itzehoe also invited the Auguste-Viktoria-Schule to take part in the opening celebrations for the newly built theater itzehoe with a performance . The college decided to present a comedy again under Dagmar Kröger-Naudiet's direction, which, unlike the previous one, was not to be played by students, but exclusively by teachers. It was a resounding success. Five performances to a sold out house! That was how big the rush was. Encouraged by the encouragement, the group of teachers ventured into other pieces as well. So one comedy followed another every two years. Over time, the number of teachers dwindled and adults who were enthusiastic about games and who had little or no connection to the AVS joined the group. That is why the former teacher ensemble finally gave itself the name AUGUSTORIA in order to demonstrate both its independence and its relationship to the AVS. All pieces were performed in the theater itzehoe and some of them also in the Elbeforum Brunsbüttel . After fourteen years of intensive and regular theater work, the group AUGUSTORIA allowed a break from 2006 to return to 2010 with the French play Boeing Boeing .
