The Market Street ( Sino  街市街 , Pinyin Jieshi Jie , Jyutping Gaai 1 si 5 Gaai 1 ) is a short street of about 63 m length in Yaumatei in Hong Kong and is considered a historical origin of the night markets of Hong Kong. The street is at the north end of Temple Street ( 廟街  /  庙街 ) and is divided into two halves by this. In a westerly direction Market Street leads as a one-way street to Shanghai Street ( 上海 街 ), in an easterly direction it leads as a pedestrian zone to Nathan Road , one of Kowloon's most important arteries in the north-south direction of the urban area.

On Market Street there is a well-known Tin Hau temple with an adjoining public open space (square), which is mostly colloquially known by the local residents as Yung Shue Tau ( 榕樹 頭  /  榕树 头 , Róngshùtóu , Jyutping Jung 4 syu 6 tau 4  - " On the fig trees ”). The square overgrown with fig trees, which lies between the two streets parallel to Nathan Road, Public Square Street , Market Street and Shanghai Street, which runs north-south, is the historical place of origin of the Temple Street Night Market ( 廟街 夜市  /  庙街 夜市 ) , which spreads from there into the surrounding streets, alongside other well-known Hong Kong night markets, such as B. in Mongkok or Sham Shui Po . After sunset, Market Street becomes a night market with food stalls, fortune tellers , various cheap second-hand items. In addition, the Kowloon Government Offices ( 九龍 政府合署  /  九龙 政府合署 ), the “ district office ” of Kowloon , an administrative building of the Hong Kong city government, is located on Market Street .
