Marko Kantele (born August 24, 1968 in Heinola , Finland ) is a Finnish darts player who is currently under contract with the PDC.

Career

Time at the BDO

Kantele made his World Masters debut in 1997 when he defeated Colin Monk in the first round but lost to Mark Day in the second round . Returned five years later, this time losing to Ted Hankey in the second round . In his third appearance, he first defeated Bobby George and Remco van Eijden before losing to Martin Atkins in the round of 16 . At the World Darts Trophy 2004 he lost to Robert Wagner in the first round .

He qualified for the BDO World Championship in 2005 and initially won against Tony O'Shea in the first round , but then lost to Simon Whitlock . In the same year he played in the International Darts League, won his first game against Mario Robbe , but was then defeated by Raymond van Barneveld and Martin Atkins, which is why he could not qualify for the second round. At the World Darts Trophy 2005 he was eliminated in the first round after losing to Vincent van der Voort . He reached the round of 32 at the 2006 World Masters, where he lost to Darryl Fitton . In 2007, he reached the quarterfinals of the WDF World Cup but failed to qualify for the World Cup itself.

Change to PDC

Kantele won the Finnish qualifying tournament for the PDC World Darts Championship 2009 against Asko Niskala , which made him the first Finnish representative. He defeated Lourence Ilagan 5-2 legs in the preliminary round and then lost to Ronnie Baxter with 1-3 sets. After the tournament, Kantele started competing in European tournaments to raise money for the European money list.

Together with Petri Korte he represented Finland at the World Cup of Darts 2012 , but they lost 4-5 to the Croatian team in the first round. In 2013 Kantele could not qualify for the PDC World Championship.
