Marko Georg Schiemann ( Upper Sorbian Marko Jurij Šiman ; born July 3, 1955 in Bautzen ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Saxon state parliament .

education and profession

Marko Schiemann attended secondary school in Bautzen and trained as a surveyor in Dresden . He completed his studies in geodesy in Dresden in 1979 with the state examination and then worked as a surveying engineer at geodesy and cartography Dresden. 1983 to 1985 he was a project engineer in Central Russia in the field of natural gas plant construction. In 1989 he was a project engineer on a geological expedition in the Mongolian Republic. At the same time he was elected works council.

politics

Marko Schiemann is a member of the CDU and is active there in various board positions. Among other things, he is a member of the CDU state executive. He is also a member of the medium-sized and business association of the CDU.

Since October 1990 he has been a directly elected member of the Saxon State Parliament for the constituency of Bautzen 5 and has been the legal policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group from the start. In 1990 Schiemann was also a member of the state constitution working group that worked out the draft for the new constitution of the Free State of Saxony . In the 3rd electoral period (1999–2004) he was chairman of the working group Constitution, Law and in the 4th electoral period (2004–2009) chairman of the working group Constitution, Law and Europe. He is chairman of the electoral review committee and a member of the constitutional, legal and European committee as well as the home affairs committee.

On May 24, 2014, Schiemann received the Saxon Constitutional Medal from State Parliament President Matthias Rößler .

In the state elections in Saxony in 2019 , he was elected constituency member in the Bautzen 5 constituency with 38.0 percent of the direct votes, against strong competition from fellow candidate Jörg Urban .

Other offices

Marko Schiemann is a member of the Consulting Engineers Working Group and the Verdi Union . He is also a member of the supervisory board of the Budissa Bautzen football association and president of the FC Landtag. He is chairman of the parliamentary advisory board of the Foundation for the Sorbian People .
