Markus Herrera Torrez

Markus Herrera Torrez (* 1988 in Zwenkau ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and Lord Mayor of Wertheim . He is the 26th mayor of Wertheim since 1810.

Life

Herrera Torrez grew up in Lauffen am Neckar and graduated from high school there. He then studied history and political science at the University of Mannheim . From 2009 to 2016 he was a member of the municipal council of Lauffen am Neckar. From 2012 to 2015 he was state chairman of the Jusos Baden-Württemberg, since 2014 he was also a member of the SPD state executive in Baden-Württemberg, and in 2017 he also took over the chairmanship of the SPD district association Heilbronn-Land. After completing his studies, Herrera Torrez completed a trainee program at IG Metall . He was then taken on as trade union secretary and in this function seconded to the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) in Brussels for two years . From the end of his activities abroad he worked in Frankfurt am Main as a consultant to the 1st chairman of IG Metall.

In January 2019, Herrera Torrez announced his candidacy as Lord Mayor of Wertheim . In the election on February 3, 2019, he received 63.3% of the votes cast and thus won the first ballot. He took over his office on May 1, 2019 from his predecessor Stefan Mikulicz , who no longer ran for election.

The inauguration took place on May 3, 2019. Due to the great interest, the event had to be moved to the Main-Tauber-Halle.
