Markus Preiß (* 1978 in Heilbad Heiligenstadt ) is a German television journalist , presenter and head of the ARD studio in Brussels .

career

He began his journalistic career as a freelance writer with reports for the Kassel HNA and the Thuringian regional newspaper . He later wrote freelance for Süddeutsche Zeitung , Handelsblatt and Geo . Preiß studied political science and journalism at the University of Dortmund . In 2003 he became editor of the Tagesschau in Cologne and from 2006 to 2011 ARD correspondent in Brussels . For Tagesschau and Tagesthemen he reported on the euro crisis, among other things . Between 2013 and 2014 he was a correspondent in Paris . He then headed the Tagesschau-Tagesthemen editorial team at WDR in Cologne. During this time he also moderated the show Brennpunkt .

On August 1, 2016, he succeeded Rolf-Dieter Krause as head of the ARD European studio in Brussels.

On May 15, 2019, Preiss moderated the Eurovision debate on the top candidates for the office of EU Commission President as one of three moderators.
