Marquis Antwane Daniels (born January 7, 1981 in Orlando , Florida ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2003 to 2013 .
Career
High school and college
After visiting the Edgewater High School in his hometown of Orlando , Florida, Daniels moved to the Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham , North Carolina, who was known for a good basketball department and other talents such as Tracy McGrady or Amar'e Stoudemire had produced . After two average years at Auburn University , where Charles Barkley had already played, Daniels improved and became the team leader. After successfully completing his college degree, he signed up for the 2003 NBA Draft .
NBA
Dallas Mavericks
As a second-round pick predicted that wanted Dallas Mavericks Daniels actually draften , but the son of Don Nelson , the then coach, Nelson advised and instead transferred the Mavs their draft pick to the Denver Nuggets . Except for the Mavericks, nobody was interested in Daniels. In the summer, the Shooting Guard was invited to the Mavericks' "Summer Camp" and, after a good performance, received a one-year contract. Despite the lack of playing time, Daniels was able to convince and was even called up to the NBA All-Rookie Team . As expected, he received a new contract for six years and $ 38 million in 2004.
Indiana Pacers
After Daniels had to fight repeatedly with injuries and he could not complete more than 62 games in any season, the Guard was transferred to the Indiana Pacers in July 2006 . In the beginning, he mostly came from the bench, but after a while he established himself in the team and stood on the field for around 20 minutes on average. After the injury of Mike Dunleavy Jr. Daniels was the starter and convinced with around 14 points per game in 32 minutes per game. However, he injured himself again and was out for about a third of the season. The Pacers decided not to pull the team option into Daniels' contract and extend his contract for another year, making Daniels a free agent .
Since 2009
On September 1, 2009 Daniels was signed by the Boston Celtics . In early 2011 he was given a second-round pick to the Sacramento Kings , for which he did not play a single game due to an injury. On the one hand, this exchange reduced the luxury tax of the Celtics and, on the other hand, the Kings achieved a minimum team salary stipulated in the NBA collective agreement.
After the season, Daniels returned to Boston. After his contract with the Celtics expired, the team did not renew it and Daniels signed a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Bucks in September 2012 .
