Marshal called Greiff is a Frankish noble family.

history

An old Franconian aristocratic family resident in the formerly imperial knightly town of Baunach , which had sworn up at several monasteries with thirty-two and sixteen ancestors. Heinrich Greiff, Marshal von Henneberg, first appeared in a document in 1127, who, after selling his goods in Alsace , acquired several knightly estates in Franconia and Henneberg , of which the old ancestral seat Erlebach is still owned by the family. Bartl Greiff lived from his descendants in 1149, Wilhelm Greiff attended the siege of Milan under Emperor Friedrich I, the Red Beard, and Heinrich Greiff is mentioned as Marshal of Margrave Hermann in Thuringia in 1204. From this time on, the elders of the family inherited the hereditary marshal's office at Struphe Castle from the Counts of Henneberg . The title of this hereditary office was generally added to the surname "Greiff" at the beginning of the 16th century. Rudolf Greiff and his brother Heino Greiff, Abbot of Königsberg, lived in 1304, Hans Marschall-Greiff of Erlebach, married to Ursula von Sternberg, lived in 1365, Heinrich Greiff in 1384 and Ulrich Greiff, married to Mechtild von Biegenburg, 1395.
