Martin von Goßler

Martin Gustav Wilhelm von Goßler (born March 18, 1843 in Liegnitz , † October 3, 1898 in Kalbe ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and master of calves.

Life

Origin and family

Martin came from the Goßler family . He was a son of the Real Secret Council and Minister of State Albert von Goßler and his wife Auguste, born von Lamprecht (1821–1887). His older brother was the later Prussian manor owner and district administrator Konrad von Goßler (1841–1900).

In 1868 he married Marie Fanny Albertine von Pfuel (1845–1930), a daughter of Major General Wolf von Pfuel (1809–1866) and Marie Karoline Theodore von Lamprecht (1823–1860) and granddaughter of the Prussian Prime Minister Ernst von Pfuel in Berlin . The mother of Martin von Goßler's wife was a niece of his mother.

Since his brother Konrad, the eldest son, inherited the Zichtau family estate when his father died in 1869, he acquired the Kalbe estate in 1873.

Career

Goßler went on the train as royal court page to the coronation ceremony of Wilhelm I in 1861 . In 1871, in the obituary notice for his father, Goßler is listed as a prime lieutenant and served; with an interruption as adjutant in the 3rd Reserve Cavalry Brigade; in the 1st Hessian Hussar Regiment No. 13 as adjutant of the 8th Cavalry Brigade .

In 1874 he was Rittmeister and squadron chief in the 1st Hessian Hussar Regiment No. 13. In that year he was also made a Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John . In mid-1875 he was transferred to the general command of the XIV Army Corps as adjutant . Around 1888 he became a major à la suite adjutant to the Chief of the Army General Staff.

From 1889 until his death Goßler was head of the central department of the Great General Staff and ended his military career as lieutenant general.
