Marten Van Riel (born December 15, 1992 in Wuustwezel ) is a Belgian triathlete , member of the national team and Olympian (2016).

Career

Marten Van Riel is trained by Joel Filliol .

He qualified for a place in the 2016 Summer Olympics and started for Belgium on August 18 in Rio de Janeiro, where he finished sixth.

In November 2017, the then 24-year-old scored his first victory in a World Cup race in Japan. In August he was third in the European championship on the short distance in Glasgow and the day after also third in the Belgian relay.

The World Cup racing series in 2019 ended Van Riel as the best Belgian athlete on the fifth. Marten Van Riel lives in Loenhout (Antwerp).
