Martha Bühler

Martha Bühler-Tschikof (born February 6, 1951 in Triesenberg ) is a former Liechtenstein ski racer and hotel owner. She was the first female athlete to compete for the country in the Olympics .

Life

Martha Bühler was born in February 1951 as the second child of Egon Bühler and his wife in Triesenberg. There she grew up with her older sister, attended the local elementary school and helped run her family's farm. After elementary school, she attended secondary school in Vaduz for three years . She then worked as an office worker in Vaduz.

During her athletic career, Bühler was active in the Triesenberg ski club. In 1963 she won the women's championship at the youth ski championships held for the first time by the Liechtenstein Ski Association (LSV). At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble where she attended three competitions took part of Alpine skiing, she was the first woman to Liechtenstein at Winter Olympics represented . In 1970 she took part in the 21st Alpine World Ski Championships in Val Gardena , Italy and achieved 25th place on the descent with a time of 2: 06.20 minutes. In the same year she was voted Sportswoman of the Year . At the next Winter Olympics in Sapporo in 1972 , she also took part in three alpine skiing competitions . After finishing her sporting career, she worked in the hotel industry. Until 1995 she ran the Hotel Martha Bühler in Triesenberg, which is located where her parents' house used to be.

On 5 November 2010, Buhler, besides Louis Oehri and posthumously Rudolf Schadler , of Hugo Quaderer the Golden bay leaf given to the Government for outstanding services to the sport in Liechtenstein.

Bühler is the mother of three children. Her son Daniel Tschikof is Vice President of the Liechtenstein Ski Association.
