Martin Čokl

Martin Čokl (born October 12, 1907 in Zibika , Lower Styria , today part of the municipality of Šmarje pri Jelšah ; † November 13, 2014 in Ljubljana ) was a Yugoslav forest scientist.

Life

Martin Čokl graduated from the University of Zagreb with a degree in forest science in 1931 . From 1934 he worked in the state forest administration of Dravska banovina . During the Second World War he was interned in various German and Italian POW camps (including the main camp III A in Luckenwalde ) and in the Dachau concentration camp .

After the war he worked at the Gozdarski inštitut (Forestry Institute) in Ljubljana . From 1964 he was professor of dendrometry at the University of Ljubljana ; In 1977 he retired. He has published numerous books and articles in professional journals.

On October 9, 2014, a celebration on the occasion of his 107th birthday and the 100th birthday of another resident took place in the old people's home in Ljubljana where Čokl last lived, in which the Slovenian President Borut Pahor took part. On January 15, 2015, an obituary article “Martin Čokl, 1907–2014” appeared in the daily Delo . Another obituary appeared in the journal Gozdarski vestnik .
