Martin Arend from Dockum

Martin Arend von Dockum (* 1665 in Friedland; † April 7, 1732 ) was a Prussian major general , chief of the dragoon regiment No. 7 and the hussar regiment H 1 and governor of Tilsit .

Life

His parents were the Dutch colonel Martin (Moritz) von Dockum and his wife Ottilie Katharina von Gevertshagen, widow of Colonel Dietrich von Steck.

Dockum fought in the Dutch Army during the War of the Spanish Succession . There he was on September 28, 1706 major and on October 28, 1707 lieutenant colonel in the Carabiniers regiment. He changed to Prussian service on March 28, 1717 , where he became a colonel in Dragoon Regiment No. 6 . On June 15, 1727 he received the newly established Dragoon Regiment No. 7 and the Hussar Regiment No. 1 with five squadrons . On June 6, 1728 he became Major General. On July 20, 1729 he became captain von Sehesten in the Sensburg district , which he exchanged for Tilsit with Georg Ernst von Creytzen on June 28, 1729 .

On April 7, 1732 he died in a pistol duel with the former lieutenant von Wolden on a meadow near Cotwitz near Zerbst . The lieutenant had recently requested and received his departure. After his death it turned out that he owed 9000 thalers. He was buried in the church of Wörlitz on April 16, 1732.

In September 1728 he married Wilhelmine Sophie von der Recke (* 1676; † July 18, 1781). The widow was buried on July 22, 1781 in the garrison church. She received a pension of 150 thalers until her death.
