Martin Block (athlete)
Martin Block (born February 22, 1973 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a former German long-distance runner.
Sporting successes
With a time of 22: 43.9 min he held the unofficial German record over 8 km in road running for 17 years. Over 10 km on the road, he is 6th in the all-time German best lists with a time of 28:37 minutes.
At the German Championships in Cologne in 1996 , he finished third in the 5000 meter run . In 1999 he was second at the German Championships in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 29: 08.87 min .
At the German cross-country championships in Gotha in 1997 , he and Dieter Baumann and Heinz-Bernd Bürger became German champions in the team classification over the long distance. At the German cross-country championships in 1999 in Viersen-Süchteln , he finished fourth in the long distance over 9760 meters in 29:50 minutes. Together with Mario Kröckert and Guido Streit , he was again German champion in the team classification.
In the fight against doping, he started an initiative for regular blood tests, which was supported by many top German runners.
The 1.80 m tall and 67 kg heavy athlete started for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen , TSV Bayer Dormagen and TV Refrath .
After his active career, he became a head coach at TV Refrath .
