Martin Dreßen (born February 24, 1983 ) is a former German amateur boxer.

Career

Dreßen began boxing on Rügen and attended the sports high school in Schwerin , where he graduated from high school. He then managed to join the Bundeswehr sports promotion group and stayed in Schwerin. He was German youth champion in 1999, German lightweight champion in 2001, and German light welterweight champion in 2005 and 2007. In 2002 he was German runner-up in the lightweight, and in 2003 and 2004 German runner-up in the light welterweight division. At the Chemistry Cup he took second place in 2004 and third place in 2006 and 2008.

He made his first international participation in September 2001 at the Junior European Championships in Sarajevo , when he advanced against the starters from France and Lithuania in the quarter-finals, there defeated against the Turks Selçuk Aydın and thus reached 5th place. In July 2003 he took part in the World Championships in Bangkok . He defeated Leong Ka Hang from Macau, Adnan Bin Yusoh from Malaysia and Hüsnü Kocabaş from the Netherlands, before losing to Pichai Sayotha from Thailand in the semifinals and thus got out of the World Cup with a bronze medal in the lightweight.

In November 2005 he took part in the light welterweight division at the world championships in Mianyang , where he reached 5th place; after victories against Artjom Howhannisjan from Armenia, Lahcen Haouari from Algeria and Anatoli Andrejew from Moldova, he lost in the quarterfinals against Dilschod Machmudow from Uzbekistan. In September 2006 he won the silver medal in the light welterweight division at the military world championships in Warendorf . He was eliminated again in the final against Dilschod Machmudow after he had previously beaten the starters from Egypt, Pakistan and Tunisia.

In August 2007 his match record was 142 wins in 186 fights. In October he participated in the World Championships in Chicago , where he was eliminated in the second preliminary round against Boris Georgiev from Bulgaria.

At the European Olympic qualification in Pescara in 2008 , he was eliminated in 5th place against Ionuț Gheorghe from Romania.

After missing the Olympic qualification, Dreßen ended his active career. He then worked as a trainer and sports teacher in Schwerin .
