Martin Frost (born April 7, 1875 in Breslau , † July 22, 1928 in Kampen (Sylt) ) was a German military and battle painter.

Martin Frost studied at the Royal Art and Trade School in Breslau and at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin with Maximilian Schäfer and Max Koner .

In the period 1899-1900 he served as a one-year volunteer . He mainly painted landscapes and scenes from the everyday life of farmers and fishermen in Northern Germany, but also expressionist nude studies .

With the outbreak of the First World War he came to the Eastern Front as a war painter. From October 1915 he served on the Alsace Front, and from January 1916 he was employed as a "licensed war painter" with the staff of the 9th Reserve Division. His works depict everyday combat and war life for German soldiers in a style that strives to be realistic. Frost is considered an outstanding artist in this genre. In 1917 he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class .

After the war, he worked as an illustrator in Berlin, mainly for Westermannsmonthshefte and the Leipziger Illustrierte Zeitung .

Many of his pictures are in the collections of the Military History Museum in Rastatt .
