Martin Froy

Martin Froy (born February 9, 1926 in London , † January 26, 2017 in Reading ) was a British painter and art teacher .

life and work

Martin Froy attended Saint Pauls School and studied history at Magdalen College , Cambridge .

From 1944 to 1947 he served in the Royal Air Force in India and Ceylon . After the end of the war, Froy attended the art academy at the University of London from 1948 to 1951, until he received the "Gregory Fellowship" of the University of Leeds for painting. In addition to abstract paintings, Froy created a number of wall paintings. In 1950 Froy exhibited at the London Institute for Contemporary Art and participated in an exhibition of British art at the Museum of Modern Art . His works have been shown in London, Bristol , New York , Chicago and Italy and are in public and private collections.

From 1954 to 1965 Froy headed the visual arts department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bath and was professor of visual arts at the University of Reading from 1972 to 1991 .
