Martin Hägele (born January 15, 1956 in Esslingen am Neckar ) is a former German football player and coach .

Career

As a youth, Hägele became German A youth champion with VfB Stuttgart in 1973 with coach Karl Bögelein and became a junior national player in the German U-18 team . He then played a year as a professional at FC Basel with the future VfB player Ottmar Hitzfeld . After failing to assert himself as a professional footballer, he subsequently worked for the Stuttgarter Kickers Amateurs , FC Wangen and SpVgg Renningen .

During his studies at the German Sport University in Cologne , he played in the student national team and in 1980 became German champion with the university team. In 1982 he finished his football teacher training. As a player - coach , he took over the supervision of his youth club TSV Wäldenbronn-Esslingen and led the team with five promotions from the district league A to the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg . In the summer of 1994 he took over as the successor to Horst Hägele as coach at SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg in the Regionalliga . In addition, Hägele became Ralf Rangnick's successor with SSV Reutlingen 05 as German amateur champion in 1997 . In the 1999/2000 season Hägele was assistant coach under Uwe Rapolder at the then second division club SV Waldhof Mannheim . His other coaching positions were: Stuttgarter Kickers (amateurs), VfB Stuttgart (B-youth and amateurs), TSV Crailsheim and FC Nöttingen .

Hägele has been active in children's and youth football since 2006, initially until December 2008 as head of Jürgen Sundermann's football training center in Freiberg am Neckar . He then appeared in 2009 as a co-founder of the Esslingen football school and in 2011 of the FC Esslingen talent development club. He subsequently took on the role of sports director.

Hägele has been a member of the coaching staff of the Württemberg Football Association since 1985 , and he is also a consultant in training courses and events at the Association of German Football Teachers . He was significantly involved in the development of the ball-oriented approach to the game as a standard within the Württemberg state association, and he also developed training concepts for youth football in Württemberg. In particular, he dealt with the role of the goalkeeper, who has to take over the role of a field player in the ball-oriented style of play. From this he headed the target image of the therefrom by portmanteau designated Torspielers from.

Between 1977 and 1997, Hägele led courses with young people from the Adelsheim and Pforzheim penal institutions , which are held in particular in the Ruit sports school .
