Martin Kovář (born January 22, 1977 in Louny ) is a Czech handball player .

Career

The 1.82 m tall middle back player started playing handball in his hometown at Loko Louny . At the age of 17 he moved to the Czech extraliga promoted Baník Most . He was later signed by Dukla Prague , with whom he became Czech champion and cup winner in 1999 and made his international debut in the 1997/98 Euro City Cup . He then went to ŠKP Frýdek-Místek . After a season with the German second division club HSV Düsseldorf , he returned to Frýdek-Místek and won the championship again in 2003. There he was twice active in the EHF Cup . In 2003 he moved to Switzerland to the Kadetten Schaffhausen , with whom he became Swiss champions in 2005 and 2006 and cup winners in 2004 and 2005. He played with the Cadets in the EHF Challenge Cup 2003/04, the European Cup Winners' Cup 2004/05, 2005/06 and 2006/07 and in the EHF Champions League 2005/06 and 2006/07. In February 2007 he was loaned to the German Bundesliga club HBW Balingen-Weilstetten . From summer 2007 he ran the following two seasons for the Grasshopper Club Zurich . In the 2009/10 season he was under contract with Pfadi Winterthur and again won the Swiss Cup in 2010. Due to injuries, he ended his career in 2010 and returned to Louny.

In 2011, Kovář began studying mechanical engineering in Freiberg and returned to handball at the HSG Freiberg league team. After a year, however, he broke this off and switched to the HSG Fichtelgebirge in the state league through the mediation of his former teammate Jarda Sovar . In the 2013/14 season he played for HV Oberlausitz Cunewalde in the Sachsenliga, at the turn of the season 2014/15 Kovář took the position of player -coach with the then newcomer to the Sachsenliga HSV Weinböhla and began to acquire his B and later A coaching license. In the further course he was also entrusted with the development of the male A and B youth, who also fight for points in the Sachsenliga.

Martin Kovář played 62 international matches for the Czech national team .
