Martin Lind (born March 14, 1944 in Malmö ) is a Swedish Lutheran bishop .

Life

After finishing school, Lind studied theology at Lund University and was ordained as a pastor in 1966 . In 1975 he received his doctorate and the following year he became a lecturer in systematic theology at Lund University. Further stations in his professional life were a lectureship at the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary in Madurai , India, a parish in Kävlinge , the rectorate in the Svenska Kyrkans Pastoral Institute and the office of provost in Uppsala. In February 1995, Lind succeeded Martin Lönnebo as bishop in the Diocese of Linköping . In March 2011, Lind's successor Martin Modéus was introduced to the office, and since then Martin Lind has been Bishop emeritus of the Church of Sweden.

Lind is considered an expert on the life of the Lutheran theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer and on interreligious dialogue. In 2009 Lind advocated church weddings for homosexual married couples in the Church of Sweden.

Martin Lind was elected 3rd Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Great Britain on October 5, 2013 and was introduced to this office on January 11, 2014.
