Martin Martiny

Martin Martiny (born September 25, 1942 in Göttingen ; † November 14, 2013 in Berlin ) was a German sociologist and director of Vattenfall Europe .

Life

Martiny studied history, law and sociology in Göttingen and Münster. In his dissertation he examined the legal and constitutional policy of the SPD in the Weimar Republic. After completing his studies, he was a research assistant at the Ruhr University in Bochum . He later taught at Bielefeld University and the Dortmund Social Academy .

In 1977 he switched to business and worked for twelve years in management positions at Ruhrkohle AG . In 1991 Martiny became a member of the board of the Vereinigte Energiewerke AG. In 2002 Martiny joined the board of directors of the energy company Vattenfall Europe . Here he was Labor Director and responsible for Human Resources until he retired in 2005.

Martiny had been a member of the SPD since 1961. He was also involved in the Protestant synod and was curator of the Brandenburg Cathedral Foundation. He belonged to the working group "Economy and Labor" of the church leadership. In addition, he was the curator of the University of Graphic Art and Book Art in Leipzig and the University of Technology, Economics and Social Affairs in Zittau / Görlitz and had a teaching position at the University of Potsdam .

Martin Martiny died after heart surgery on November 14, 2013 at the age of 71 in Berlin. The funeral service took place on November 25, 2013 in the Brandenburg Cathedral . The grave of Martin Martiny is on the state-owned cemetery Heerstraße in Berlin-Westend (grave location: 20-Wald-5a).
