Martin Nell

Martin Nell (born September 12, 1960 in Düsseldorf ; † March 28, 2015 in Hamburg ) was a German economist and professor of business administration, especially insurance management, at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Martin Nell studied social and economic history in Hamburg from April 1, 1982 to September 30, 1983 . From 1 October 1983 to 30 September 1988, he graduated in Economics (VWL) in Hamburg and earned a degree graduate in economics .

From October 1, 1988 to March 31, 1993, Nell had a job as a research assistant at the Institute for Insurance Management at Walter Karten at the University of Hamburg. On November 13, 1992 , he received his doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Hamburg. The topic of his dissertation was insurance- induced changes in policyholder behavior. An analysis of the substitution, moral hazard and market effects with special consideration of health insurance . In 1993, his dissertation was awarded the Ernst Meyer Prize of the Geneva Association of Risk and Insurance.

From April 1, 1993 to September 30, 1996, Martin Nell worked as a research assistant (C1) at the Institute for Insurance Management at Walter Karten at the University of Hamburg. On October 2, 1996 , he completed his habilitation in business administration at the University of Hamburg.

From October 1, 1996 to May 11, 1997, Nell held a substitute professorship for business administration, in particular insurance management, at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From May 12, 1997 to March 31, 2001, he worked as a professor of business administration, especially insurance management, at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

Since April 1, 2001, Martin Nell has been Managing Director of the Institute for Insurance Management at the University of Hamburg.

Mr. Nell was married with one daughter.

Research priorities

His main research interests were insurance economics , health economics and economic analysis of law .
