Martin Rosowski (* 1958 in Bochum ) is a German Protestant theologian and historian .

Life

Martin Rosowski studied Protestant theology and history . He worked for two years as a research assistant at the Chair for Christian Social Studies at the University of Bochum . Since 1991 he has been managing director of the men's work department of the Evangelical Church in Germany . From 2009 to 2019 he was chairman of the umbrella association of men's political organizations in Germany, Bundesforum Männer . He is co-editor of the 2007 study by the University of Bayreuth What Makes Men Sense , which investigated the question of why men are absent from church communities. Men who were distant from the church were interviewed on the subjects of religiosity, belief and spirituality.

Positions

For Rosowski, men's work is based on gender democracy , which he justifies with the Christian image of man and the equality of men and women in church and society. He positioned himself against the aggressive anti-feminism of men, especially on the Internet , who see themselves as the “true” representatives of “the” interests of boys, men and fathers. At an international conference on men's politics, which took place in Vienna in 2014, he emphasized the “constructive discourse” with the women's movement and feminism. The decisive factor for him is that men's policy is derived “from the actual needs of men”.

On the occasion of the debate about the sociological study Regretting motherhood , Rosowski criticized a “mother myth” according to which women could raise children better than men.
