Martin Schwander
Martin Schwander (born May 14, 1949 in Bern ) is a Swiss journalist and activist of the 1968 movement .
Life
Schwander grew up with two older brothers in Oberburg . He attended high school in Burgdorf . In the 1960s he frequented the “ Junkere 37 ” discussion cellar in Bern. Among other things, he wrote for the socialist information service Zeitdienst in Zurich , headed by Theo Pinkus , was involved in the peace movement (Easter March Biel – Bern 1964) and became known as a conscientious objector . At the beginning of November 1966, Schwander founded the "Group 67", also known as the "Forum for Progressive Art", in Burgdorf together with Walter Aeschlimann , Heinz Fankhauser , Toni Zimmermann and Peter Zünd . From 1969 he studied sociology and philosophy as a major and journalism as a minor at the University of Bern . He spent seven months in prison for refusing to serve in the military for political reasons and was then given a criminal record. In 1972 he was accepted at the School for Social Work in Gwatt (now the College for Social Work). Following his studies, he worked as a journalist and author, including in the Bern office of the Soviet news and press agency Novosti . In 1983 he became General Secretary of the Association of Swiss Student Unions .
In 2004 he was elected to the local council of Oberburg on the SP list, in 2008 he was re-elected with the best result on the SP list and the fourth best result of all candidates. He did not run for the 2012 elections.
