Martin Strimitzer

Martin Strimitzer (born November 10, 1928 in Stein , municipality of Dellach im Drautal ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and official of the financial directorate for Tyrol. From 1982 to 1992 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council and its President in the first half of 1990.

education and profession

Strimitzer attended elementary school from 1935 to 1939 and then switched to school between 1939 and 1947 at the humanistic grammar school in Hall in Tirol. In between, Strimitzer served from 1944 to 1945 in World War II. Between 1947 and 1951 he subsequently worked as editor of the Tiroler Nachrichten , before joining the Innsbruck tax office in 1951 . Strimitzer also studied law at the University of Innsbruck and received his doctorate in law in 1957 (Dr. iur.). From 1976 to 1990 Strimitzer was the head of the customs department of the regional financial directorate for Tyrol. He was appointed councilor in 1976 and was given the professional title of professor in 1992 .

Since 1947 he has been a member of the Catholic student union KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck . He later became a member of the KAV Capitolina Rome .

Politics and functions

From 1967 to 1973 Strimitzer was active as chairman of the technical committee at the regional financial directorate for Tyrol and from 1967 to 1975 he was chairman of the regional finance department of the public service union . From 1973 to 1977 he was also a member of the Federal Finance Section and the Tyrolean Regional Council of the Public Service Union and between 1976 and 1990 he was Chairman of the Tyrolean Regional Council of the Public Service Union. Strimitzer was a member of the Austrian People's Party and active in the Austrian Workers 'and Employees' Association. From 1976 on he acted as chairman of the public service section of the Austrian Workers' Association in Tyrol. He was also a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe from 1986 to 1993 and from 1986 chairman of the Tyrolean Association of Tenants and Apartment Owners. He represented the Tyrolean People's Party from March 24, 1982 to December 31, 1992 in the Austrian Federal Council. Between January 1, 1990 and June 30, 1990, he was President of the Federal Council, and from July 1, 1992 to December 31, 1992, he was Vice President.
