Martin Walter Stanton (born April 17, 1897 in Jersey City , New Jersey , † October 1, 1977 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in Newark .

Life

Martin Walter Stanton received on 14 June 1924 by the Auxiliary Bishop of New York , John Joseph Dunn , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On June 27, 1957, Pope Pius XII appointed him . the titular bishop of Citium and auxiliary bishop in Newark. The Archbishop of Newark, Thomas Aloysius Boland , ordained him episcopal on September 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Paterson , James Aloysius McNulty , and the Bishop of Trenton , George William Ahr .

Martin Walter Stanton attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council . Pope Paul VI accepted on April 17, 1972 the resignation put forward by Stanton for reasons of age.
