Martna (German: Sankt Martens ) is a former rural community in the Estonian district of Lääne with an area of 269 km². It had 996 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2006). In 2017 Martna became part of the enlarged rural community of Lääne-Nigula .
Villages
Martna was 25 km from Haapsalu. In addition to the main town Martna belonged to the rural community of the villages Allikotsa , Ehmja , Enivere , Jösse , Kaare , Kaasiku , Kabeli , Kasari , Keravere , Keskküla , Keskvere , Kesu , Kirna , Kokre , Kuluse , Kurevere , Laiküla , Liivaküla , Männiku , Niinja , Nõmme , Ohtla , Oonga , Putkaste , Rannajõe , Rõude , Soo-otsa , Suure-Lähtru , Tammiku , Tuka , Uusküla , Vanaküla and Väike-Lähtru .
Attractions
Part of the municipality belonged to the Matsalu National Park (5100 ha), which was established in 1957. It is known for its abundance of birds with 175 native species and its coastal landscape with rare animals and plants. There was also the Marimetsa nature reserve created in 1997 with its moors.
