Keskvere (German Keskfer ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääne-Nigula (until 2017: rural municipality Martna ) in Lääne County in Estonia .

Population and location

The place has 29 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located 21 kilometers southeast of the county capital Haapsalu . The Rannamõisa River ( Rannamõisa jõgi ) flows through the village and flows into the Matsalu Bay.

history

At the beginning of the 16th century the place was a prebend of the canons of Haapsalu. For a long time the estate was owned by the noble Baltic German family Ungern-Sternberg .

Around the middle of the 18th century the manor house of the local manor was made of wood. The single-storey house is reminiscent of a peasant building, but details indicate an aristocratic ownership. It shows baroque features. The jacket chimney and two baroque tiled stoves are historic. In addition to the main house, some outbuildings have been preserved.

The complex now houses a cultural center ( Keskvere Kultuurikoda ).
