Kirimäe (German Kirrimäggi ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääne-Nigula in Lääne County in Estonia . Until 2013 it belonged to the now dissolved rural community Taebla .

Population and location

Prehistoric settlement from the second half of the first millennium BC

The place has 117 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). Its area is 16.8 square kilometers.

The village is twelve kilometers southeast of the county capital Haapsalu .

archeology

In 1923, during construction work on the Kabelimägi hill, the remains of a cremation from the 6th century AD were found. In total, there are more than 170 artifacts of high archaeological value.

The chance discovery of a small stone ax in 1999 proves that the settlement goes back to a long history. Its age is estimated at 3,500 years.

The historical Kirimäe estate was first mentioned in 1569.

The single-storey mansion with its high roof was built at the end of the 19th century. It was heavily redesigned for the purposes of a collective farm during the 20th century .
