Koela (German Koila ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääne-Nigula in Lääne County in Estonia . Until 2013 it belonged to the now dissolved rural community Taebla .

Population and location

The place has 46 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). Its area is 9.5 square kilometers.

The village is located 12 kilometers northeast of the county capital Haapsalu .

history

Koela was first mentioned in 1228 under the name Quevele . While it belonged to the Diocese of Ösel-Wiek , the village was divided into two parts: on the one hand, the episcopal village of Fidder, and on the other, the private farm Koyvel.

Farmers and local history museum

A farm and local history museum ( Koela talumuuseum ) has been located on the 19th century farm Uuetalu since 1987 . In the summer months it shows the traditional way of life and work of the Estonian rural population. In addition to historical agricultural machinery, there is an exhibition on old toys.
