Rõude (German Ruhde ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality Lääne-Nigula (until 2017: rural municipality Martna ) in Lääne County in Estonia .

Population and location

The place has 75 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It is located on the Kasari River ( Kasari jõgi ).

The place and its two estates were first mentioned in 1519 under the names Ruden maior and Ruden minor .

Väike-Rõude

The Klein-Ruhde ( Väike-Rõude ) estate was established in the 16th century. The last owner before the expropriation in the course of the Estonian land reform in 1919 was the Baltic German nobleman Harry von Maydell.

The buildings were abandoned in the 1960s. Since the 1970s, only ruins have remained of the two-storey mansion in the style of early classicism .

The filming of the feature film Jõulud Vigalas ("Christmas in Vigala") took place there. It deals with the events of the Russian Revolution of 1905. The 1980 film was directed by Mark Soosaar (* 1946).

Suure-Rõude

The single-storey main building of the Groß-Ruhde estate ( Suure-Rõude ) was made of wood in the 18th century. The house with its high roof is now a private residential building. It is embedded in an English style park .
