Martti Järventie (born April 4, 1976 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who has played in the course of his active career for the Canadiens de Montréal in the National Hockey League .
Career
Martti Järventie began his career as a hockey player with Ilves Tampere , for whom he played in the SM-liiga from 1994 to 2000 . In the 1995/96 season he was also in 16 games for their league rivals Lukko Rauma on the ice. After the 2000/01 season , in which the defender was under contract with TPS Turku , he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2001 in the fourth round as a total of 109th player by the Canadiens de Montréal , for which he was selected in the following season played a game and otherwise ran up in the American Hockey League for their farm team , the Québec Citadelles . Then Järventie returned to his Finnish homeland, where he was initially under contract with his ex-club Ilves Tampere in the 2002/03 season, before he was active for Jokerit Helsinki until the summer of 2007 .
In the 2007/08 season Järventie played for the second time in his career abroad when he was active for Mora IK from the Swedish Elitserien . After the season he returned to Finland, where he received a contract with the reigning champions Kärpät Oulu , with whom he was runner-up in the 2008/09 season. He then left Oulu again and was signed by Helsingfors IFK , with whom he won the Finnish championship in 2011 . For the 2011/12 season he returned to his ex-club Ilves Tampere.
He ended his active career in the 2015/16 season with league rivals HPK Hämeenlinna and the British club Milton Keynes Lightning with play in the English Premier Ice Hockey League .
International
For Finland Järventie took part in the Junior World Championships in 1995 and 1996 .
