Martynas Pocius (born April 28, 1986 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian basketball player . Pocius plays in the positions of shooting guard and small forward .
career
Martynas Pocius already played in high school in the United States at the private Holderness School in Plymouth (New Hampshire) . After his graduation in 2005, he went to Duke University , where he played under coach Mike Krzyzewski for the Blue Devils in the Atlantic Coast Conference of the NCAA .
In 2009 he finished his studies in international comparative studies and then went back to his homeland, where he signed with Žalgiris Kaunas . In his first season he won the BBL with a 73:66 in the final against Lietuvos rytas Vilnius , in 2010/11 he finally won the triple of the BBL, championship and national cup with his team . In the summer of 2011, Pocius moved to the Spanish club Real Madrid , where he signed a contract that ran until 2013. Already in his first season Pocius was able to conquer the cup with his team . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he won the Spanish Supercup , he also reached the final of the Euroleague with Real Madrid and ended the year with a victory in the championship . However, he himself fell out from the end of February due to an ankle injury and his contract with the Spaniards was not renewed. For the 2013/14 season he returned to Žalgiris Kaunas.
National team
Martynas Pocius played as a junior with Lithuania in the U-18 European Championship in 2004 and the U-20 European Championship in 2006. He finished both tournaments as the best scorer of his team. With the senior national team he took part in the 2010 World Cup and won the bronze medal. Pocius was part of the Lithuanian squad for the 2011 European Championship in their own country, his team finished the tournament in fifth place.

Trivia
At the age of 13, Martynas Pocius suffered a partial amputation of three fingers on his left hand in an accident with a milling machine . Two of them could be reconstructed in a complicated operation, but he lost the middle finger permanently.
