Mary Ann Gomes (born September 19, 1989 in Calcutta , West Bengal ) is an Indian chess player . She bears the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM).

Life

Your first chess tournament was the Indian U9 championship in 1998. In 2003 and 2004 she took part in the U16 Chess Olympiads. In 2005 she won the Asian U16 championship for women in Namangan , Uzbekistan. She has been training at the Dibyendu Barua Chess Academy in Kolkata since 2005 . At the U18 World Cup for women in 2006 in Batumi , she finished third. She won the Asian Youth Championships (female) in New Delhi in 2006 , in Mumbai in 2007 and in Chennai in 2008 .

In August 2005 she received the title of International Women's Champion (WIM). She achieved the standards for this in January 2005 at the 3rd International Parsvnath Tournament in Delhi , in May 2005 in Bangalore during her first participation in an Indian women's individual championship , where she finished second behind Nisha Mohota , and by winning the Asian U16 - Girls' Championship in June 2005 in Namangan. Since June 2008 she has held the title of Grand Master of Women (WGM). She achieved the standards for this in April 2006 in the A group of the 32nd Indian women's individual championship in Visakhapatnam and by winning the Asian junior championships in 2006 and 2007. She is the second woman from Bengal to receive the women's grandmaster title after Nisha Mohota. In January 2015, she ranks sixth on the Indian women's Elo ranking.

National team

With the Indian women's team, Mary Ann Gomes took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2006 , 2008 (both as reserve player), 2012 and 2014 . In the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden , she received an individual silver medal for their results of 6 of 8. At the World Team Championship women took part in 2009 and 2013, and reached 2013, the third-best result on the fourth board. She played in Asian women's team championships in 2005, 2009 (in the second team), 2012 and 2014. With the team she reached second place in 2005, 2012 and 2014, in the individual ranking she achieved the second best result in 2005 and in 2014 the third best result on fourth Board.
