Matthew Jon Berkey (born January 29, 1982 in Leechburg , Pennsylvania ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Berkey grew up with his two siblings in his native Leechburg. His parents divorced in his childhood, so due to difficult family circumstances, Berkey moved in with his grandparents at the age of 13. He attended Allegheny College and graduated from Gannon University with a degree in computer science . In his spare time he did athletics and played baseball . Berkey lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Berkey played online under the nickname berkey11 from November 2006 to April 2011 . His online tournament earnings on the PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker platforms are close to one million US dollars . Since 2006 he has also participated in renowned live tournaments .

The end of June 2008 Berkey was the first time in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas successful and died in a tournament variant No-Limit Hold'em the money. At the 2010 WSOP , he reached the seventh day of the tournament in the main event and received over $ 200,000 in prize money for his 43rd place. In June 2011 , he sat at a WSOP final table for the first time and finished sixth in a Hold'em event with a buy-in of $ 2,500 for around $ 120,000. At the 2013 WSOP , Berkey reached two final tables and secured around $ 470,000 with a total of six cashes. In December 2015, he won the Aria High Roller at the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas with a prize of more than $ 300,000. In early May 2016, Berkey played the Super High Roller Bowl with a buy-in of $ 300,000. There he finished fifth and received his highest prize money to date of $ 1.1 million. In mid-July 2017 , Berkey finished third in the Little One for One Drop of the WSOP for just under $ 250,000. In August 2017, he also finished third at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship for just under $ 350,000.

In total, Berkey has made more than four million dollars playing poker in live tournaments.
