Matthew "Matt" Gilks (born June 4, 1982 in Rochdale ) is a Scottish football player . The goalkeeper is under contract with Scunthorpe United .
Career
society
Matt Gilks was born in Rochdale , North West England , in 1982 . He started his career in the town where he was born at Rochdale AFC . Until 2000 he played in the youth of the club. From the 2000/01 season he was part of the professional team. In the 2004/05 season , the now 22-year-old was able to secure his regular place in goal, whereupon his contract was extended by two years. He did not give up his regular place in the following two years. After a total of 176 league games, Gilks moved to Norwich City on a free transfer in 2007 . In the Canaries he was in the 2007/08 season behind David Marshall substitute goalkeeper in the second division. After only one year Gilks was in exchange for Wes Hoolahan to Blackpool transferred. From November to December 2008 Gilks was awarded to the English third division club Shrewsbury Town . After returning to Blackpool, he became first goalkeeper in the 2011/12 season , replacing Paul Rachubka . In July 2014 Gilks moved to Burnley FC . As a replacement for Tom Heaton , Gilks completed only two games in the League Cup in the following two years. In June 2016, the 34-year-old signed a contract with the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland. After half a year Gilks moved back to England, and signed with Wigan Athletic . Half a year later Gilks signed with Scunthorpe United .
National team
Born in England, Matt Gilks played once for the Scottish national football team in 2012 and 2013 . As a descendant of Scots , he made his debut for the Bravehearts in the international match against Australia in August 2012 when he came on for the injured Allan McGregor .
