Matthew Phillip Prater (* 10. August 1984 in Mayfield Heights , Ohio ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the Kickers . He currently plays for the Detroit Lions in the NFL . He holds the record for the longest field goal with 64 yards .

college

Matt Prater attended the University of Central Florida (UCF) and played college football for their team, the Knights . Between 2002 and 2005 he was able to achieve a total of 50 field goals and holds numerous school records.

NFL

Detroit Lions

Prater was not considered in the 2006 NFL Draft , but was subsequently signed by the Detroit Lions as a free agent , but could not prevail against the veteran Jason Hanson and was retired before the start of the season.

Miami Dolphins

In January 2007 he was signed to the Miami Dolphins , but then gave preference to Jay Feely .

Atlanta Falcons

He moved to the Atlanta Falcons and finally got his first NFL appearances there. After only two games, Prater was replaced by Morten Andersen .

Second employment with the Miami Dolphins

He then moved back to the Dolphins, but was released after just a month.

Denver Broncos

The rest of the 2007 season he spent with the Denver Broncos , where he became the first kicker in the following season. He was able to improve continuously and in 2013 he scored the longest field goal in the NFL with 64 yards in the game against the Tennessee Titans . In addition, he set the record for the most extra points in a season (75). That year he was also appointed to the Pro Bowl for the first time .

In 2014, he was suspended for four games for violating the league's doping guidelines. His replacement Brandon McManus was able to convince, and Prater was fired from the Broncos.

Return to Detroit Lions

Just three days later he received a contract from the Detroit Lions, where he has consistently performed well ever since. In 2016 he was called to the Pro Bowl for the second time.
