Matt Thornhill (born October 11, 1988 in Nottingham ) is an English football player who was last under contract with Hibernian Edinburgh .

Career

Matt Thornhill began his career with Nottingham Forest in 2007 . The midfielder made his professional debut in the League Cup game against Chester City on August 14, 2007 when he came on for Felix Bastians in the 71st minute . Four days later, he played his first game in Football League One when he came on for Kris Commons in the goalless draw with Swansea City . On January 12, 2008 Thornhill scored his first goal for Forest in the home game against Leyton Orient . He scored to 4-0 for Forest, before that two-time goalscorer Grant Holt and Kris Commons were successful.

After the 2007/08 season, he managed with Forest promotion to the Football League Championship . His first goal in the second division was on October 28, 2008 in the away game at Crystal Palace . His goal led to the 1-2 winning goal for Forest. By the end of the season, he completed 24 league games for Forest and scored three goals. As part of Joel Lynch's transfer business between Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion , he joined the Seagulls on loan in July 2009 . Thornhill was used in Brighton in a total of seven games in League One and once each in the League Cup and the FA Trophy , after the dismissal of coach Russell Slade in early November 2009, he was no longer considered by his successor Gustavo Poyet and sent back to Forest prematurely.

There he was not used and awarded to Cheltenham Town in January 2010 . With the Robins he scored his first goal in his second competitive game against FC Barnet . A week later he met again in a 2-0 victory over FC Morecambe . After the loan period expired, the midfielder returned to Nottingham Forest again in the summer of 2010.

On January 21, 2011 Matt Thornhill moved to the Scottish first division club Hibernian Edinburgh . In January of the following year the contract was terminated.
