Johann Matthäus Abbrederis

Johann Matthäus Abbrederis (baptized April 17, 1652 in Rankweil ; † after 1725) was an Austrian organ builder . He was an important master organ builder in the Alpine Rhine Valley south of Lake Constance shortly before and after 1700. Stylistically, he was connected to the Baroque style of the 17th century and was unaffected by the South German late Baroque

Life

In 1691 Abbrederis built an organ in Thal (today in the Neu St. Johann monastery ). From 1693 he did an order for an organ in the Pfäfers monastery and in Fischingen. In 1711 he restored the great organ in the Konstanz Minster . In the 18th century, an organ for St. Luzi in Chur followed in 1712 , one in Sargans in 1717 and one in Maienfeld in 1725 .

There are 39 organs that were built by Johann Matthäus Abbrederis between 1688 and 1725.

  • Organ in the St. Francis Church in Mon GR , 1690. It is the oldest surviving instrument from Abbrederis. Probably only erected here between 1800 and 1810. Original location unknown.
  • Organ built for Thal, 1691, moved to Hemberg in 1883 , dismantled there in 1972 and stored at Mathis Orgelbau in Näfels, restored by Mathis in 1990 and installed in the monastery church in Neu St. Johann monastery .
  • Organ in the so-called Psallierchor of the collegiate church in Pfäfers monastery , 1693/1994. The organ was restored in 1972 by Orgelbau Th. Kuhn AG.
  • Organ in the Reformed Church in Sax , 1718.
  • Organ in the Amandus Church in Maienfeld, 1725. After contemporary modernizations in 1896 and 1725, the organ was restored in 1968 by the Metzler company from Dietikon, and in 2009 a general overhaul was carried out by the Metzler company
