The Matthäuskirche in Mahnen , in the district Löhne-Bahnhof, a district of the Löhner district Gohfeld , is the church of the Evangelical parish Mahnen, which belongs to the parish Vlotho of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

The area of ​​today's parish Mahnen originally belonged to the Simeon Church in Gohfeld. After the construction of the Löhne train station , the village of Löhne-Bahnhof developed in the second half of the 19th century. On January 1, 1895, a separate parish for Löhne-Bahnhof and Bischofshagen was parish . It was named Mahnen after a small farming community with four farms .

The foundation stone for the first church building was laid on June 19, 1895, and it was consecrated on December 15, 1896. By 1913 a rectory and a parish hall were built next to it. On March 14, 1945, the church and the adjacent buildings were badly damaged in a bomb attack on the train station. The nave had to be demolished, the tower was restored from 1952 to 1953 and the old height was restored with a roof turret . The worship place after the Second World War, initially held in a school.

From 1964, a new building was built by the architect Werner Johannsen, Osnabrück, partly on the foundation of the destroyed nave, a few meters away from the tower. The inauguration took place on January 17, 1965. The church was named after the evangelist Matthew . It is a listed building.

Furnishing

The altar , pulpit and baptismal font of the Matthäuskirche were made of limestone by the Nuremberg sculptor Heinz Heiber . From Heinz Lilienthal come concrete and stained glass windows .

The organ originally manufactured by Emanuel Kemper in Lübeck was expanded by Steinmann . In the tower there are three bells cast by the Bochumer Verein , which date from the year of construction in 1896.
