Matthew Kia Yen-wen
Matthew Kia Yen-wen ( Chinese 賈彥文 , Pinyin Jiǎ Yànwén ; born January 17, 1925 in Yuanshi , Republic of China ; † August 22, 2017 ) was the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Taipei .
Life
Matthew Kia Yen-wen was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Tainan on July 15, 1951 .
Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Chiayi on May 21, 1970 . The Archbishop of Nanking , Cardinal Paul Yu Pin , donated him episcopal ordination on July 16 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Stanislaus Lo Kuang , Archbishop of Taipei, and Joseph Kuo Joshih , Senior Archbishop of Taipei. On December 14, 1974 he was by Paul VI. appointed Bishop of Hualien. Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Taipei on November 15, 1978. On February 11, 1989, John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
He was president of the Taiwan Episcopal Conference from 1979 to 1983.
